Following the Taylor Review last year, the government has confirmed an overhaul of employment rights. This is said to include a consultation to consider the options, such as new legislation, to make it easier for workforces and businesses to determine whether someone is an employee, worker or self-employed, stricter enforcement of holiday pay and sick pay rights, and a new right for workers to request a more stable contract to allow financial security.
Organisations operating in the gig economy should review their contracts in advance of the potential changes to ensure they reflect the reality of the relationship with their workforce.
