The Knowsley Chamber has hosted a ‘Winning Work Through Environment, Social & Governance (ESG)’ event at the Village Hotel, Whiston which was filled with insightful discussions and networking opportunities. The gathering featured an impressive lineup of speakers and organisations dedicated to advancing ESG principles across various sectors and exploring the policies which need to be in place to work with local authorities.

Kate Roberts and Alison Brennan at the Knowsley Chamber ESG eventDTM Legal played a prominent role in the event, with Kate Roberts, Head of Liverpool, and Alison Brennan, Head of Compliance and Service Delivery, delivering an engaging speech on “Why a good governance structure retains employees and wins business.” Their presentation highlighted how robust governance structures are crucial in retaining employees and securing business success. Their insights emphasised to the audience, the direct link between effective governance as part of an overall ESG strategy and successful business operations.

The event kicked off with STAR Procurement Ltd providing an overview of their strategic procurement services for local authorities, including Knowsley, Trafford, Rochdale, and others. STAR Procurement also discussed their involvement in a national social value task force, where they work to maximise value for money, deliver efficiencies, and enhance social value.

Other notable speakers included Tony Clark, Assistant Director of Development and Infrastructure at Knowsley Council, who shared recent successes and upcoming projects in the region. Stephen Painter, Director at Hemsec, discussed his company’s ESG approach, while the Morgan Sindall Construction team elaborated on their procurement framework and corporate responsibility initiatives. The event concluded with Dave McGuinness, who offered valuable insights on social value and tendering tips.

The Business Growth Team from Invest Knowsley also participated, providing information on current programs funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), further highlighting the collaborative efforts towards sustainable growth and development.
