The Role

The prime role of the Legal Assistant is to provide direct support to the Fee Earners within the team to enable the Fee Earners to operate at optimum efficiency. This will include but will not be limited to the main duties and responsibilities given below. The ideal candidate will be bright, enthusiastic and hardworking and will feel confident in assisting team members both on individual transactions and as part of wider (possibly multi-disciplinary) project teams. This is a significant opportunity for someone to gain excellent experience early on in their legal career.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Reviewing initial documents received from our client.
  • Checking signatures against ID documents.
  • Completing initial, ongoing, and final risk assessments.
  • Requesting property searches.
  • Raising enquiries as directed by fee earner
  • Replying to enquiries
  • Sending enquires to client for responses.
  • Corresponding with clients, brokers, estate agents, solicitors, and all other parties.
  • Reviewing and reporting on mortgages offers.
  • Reporting to mortgage lenders.
  • Reviewing lenders requirements throughout a transaction.
  • Reviewing search results and reporting on search results.
  • Drafting documents
  • Obtaining and reviewing proof and source of funds and wealth.
  • Obtaining draft indemnity insurance.
  • Placing indemnity insurance on risk.
  • Completing SDTLT return and calculating SDLT liability.
  • Scanning in correspondence and signed documents.
  • Raising bills
  • Preparing completion statements
  • Obtaining redemption statements
  • Make payments.
  • Suggesting and agreeing completion dates
  • Requesting mortgage funds
  • Requesting deposits
  • Sending post completion documents
  • Submitting applications to Land Registry
  • Sending clients and mortgage lenders updated title documents.
  • Preparing files for archiving
  • Making and answering calls
  • Exchanging contracts
  • Completing transactions
