After more than four years of negotiation the new EU data protection framework the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) was adopted on 8 April 2016. The GDPR, which will come into force on 25 May 2018, will replace the European 1995 Data Protection Directive (“the Directive”) and, in the UK, the Data Protection Act 1998.
The new framework marks a significant change to the EU data protection regime and could have a big impact on any organisation that deals with the personal data of EU citizens. Whilst 25 May 2018 sounds like some time off, businesses will need to be ready.
In this whitepaper we highlight the key changes to be introduced by the GDPR and what businesses should be doing to prepare.
