North West commercial law firm DTM Legal, which has offices in Liverpool and Chester, advised the shareholders of one of the UK’s biggest independent newspaper groups, NWN Media, on the recent sale of the family-owned company to publisher Newsquest.
NWN Media was established in North Wales in the mid-19th Century and had been under family ownership for more than 180 years. At completion of the sale, the company, headquartered in Mold, Flintshire, comprised of 10 other offices across Wales and England.
The 13 regional titles involved in the deal included the Daily Leader, Chester Standard, Powys County Times, Denbighshire Free Press, Whitchurch Herald and North Wales Chronicle.
Newsquest is the second largest regional media company in the UK. This latest deal follows on from its purchase of another independently owned title, The Isle of Wight County Press, in July.
Alison Brennan, a partner in commercial law firm DTM’s corporate team who led the transaction, said: “NWN has a longstanding reputation as one of the UK’s leading regional newspaper publishers and, having personally acted as legal adviser to NWN since 2001, I hope that Newsquest’s acquisition will ensure its continued success. We wish all parties involved every success for the future.”
Anthony Moss confirmed that the Jones and Moss families “are very pleased for Newsquest and wish them well for the future. The purchase was concluded quickly and efficiently and the families hope to continue working with DTM Legal on future projects”
