On Sunday 19th June 2016, DTM took to the muddy banks of the River Dee to take part in the Chester Dragon Boat Race for the second year running.
Team DeTerMination competed against seventeen other teams in the annual Dragon Boat Race in an effort to raise a generous amount for their charity of the year, Zoë’s Place.
Joining the valiant crew and drumming up support at the Dragon Boat Race were Chester Dee 106.3’s Chester the Cat and Zoë’s Place mascot, Zoe Bear.
The Race
With family and friends cheering the team on, Team DeTerMination took on Round 1 like true professionals, winning the first race and then patiently waiting for the call up from Rio.
On Round 2, the crew were rowing against tougher competitors, coming in at 2nd place.
By Round 3, each crew member took to the paddles with a real hunger to win but it wasn’t to be.
Sadly Team DeTerMination did not make it to the Grand Final but that did not stop them from having a fantastic day, raising money for a very worthy cause!
The Charity
Zoë’s Place is the only “baby specific” hospice in the UK. .The hospices’ facilities are designed to provide a ‘home from home’ for families and they provide palliative, respite and end of life care for babies and infants up to five years old, suffering from life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
Zoë’s Place was put forward by trainee solicitor at the firm, Lucy Nelson, whose family hold close links with the hospice. It provided a safe home and resting place for her cousin’s 14-month old son, Evan Shone, who tragically died of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2014.
Lucy Nelson said: “Our family are so grateful to the staff at Zoë’s Place who are absolutely excellent at what they do. Without the help and support from all the staff at Zoë’s Place the whole situation would have been so much harder to deal with.”
Samantha Lee, Corporate and Events Fundraising Officer at Zoë’s Place, said: “We are so grateful for DTM Legal’s support. It makes an amazing difference to families who need it.”
To date, DTM Legal have raised £1210.00 so far for this cause but there is still time to raise even more.
