The 5th annual Liverpool Sportswoman’s Lunch took place on the 14th of September, with DTM Legal proudly named as sponsors. The Sportswoman’s Lunch not only celebrated women’s sporting achievements but also raised funds for charitable causes.
The 2023 Sportswoman’s Lunch
Last year’s event was the most illustrious to date, taking place at Anfield and hosted by LFC pitch-side announcer, Peter McDowall. The event’s guest speaker was local legend Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Katarina is a two-time Olympian who competed as a Heptathlete at the London and Doha Olympic Games. Most recently, KJT had come out in first place at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Having spent the first 23 years of her life in Liverpool, it was a fitting event to celebrate her success.
Katarina was joined by 350 guests from the local business community, all of whom helped support the KJT Academy with their attendance.
Charitable Giving
In previous years, the event had supported a range of charities, including the Alder Hey Children’s Hospice, the Encephalitis Society, NSPCC, and most recently, Marie Curie. The previous year’s event had been the most successful to date, raising a massive £20,250 for charity, setting the bar high for 2023. With this year’s event hosting more attendees than ever before, it was expected to beat the previous total, which was great news for the local communities benefiting from the KJT Academy’s hard work.
The event was a resounding success, with Katarina’s speech and the generous contributions of attendees raising a staggering £30,000 for the KJT Academy, a charity that provides opportunities for state-schooled athletes from diverse ethnic communities in The North West. More information about this year’s charity could be found on the KJT Academy website.
