New rules on Acas Early Conciliation
Prior to today (1st December) the Acas Early Conciliation process, (which a prospective claimant was required to go through prior to issuing an employment tribunal claim) is a one month process with a possible extension of a further two weeks.
From today onwards, this will be extended to a standard six week process.
This is welcome news for employers at a time when, due to the high number of cases that Acas is dealing with, employers are frequently not being notified of the process having been commenced until close to the conciliation deadline.
